Response Assignment #11:
Due December 4th (minimum 2 pages):
After reading the four pieces due for December 4th, choose ONE of the following questions, and in no less than two full pages, engage in a thoughtful response to your chosen question. You MUST use at least one quote from EACH reading to help you illustrate your point. Be sure to note the author of each quote, as well (for example: As Esther Iverem notes in her article, "quote, quote, quote," which suggests that blah, blah, blah).
-
Do you believe that art can be therapeutic in response to human tragedy? And if so, therapeutic to whom? Why or why not? Be sure to use at least one quote from EACH reading as you discuss your answer to this question.
-
Can art act as a tool for political and/or social activism in response to human crises and moments of tragedy? If so, how? Give some examples (and you can certainly use a current example or even an example of a way in which you have been involved in art that has become an activist tool for social or political change). Be sure to use at least one quote from EACH reading as you discuss your answer to this question.
-
In your opinion, why do some people respond with disgust, anger, and/or revolt against art that responds to human tragedy? Does some art just seem to cross some invisible boundary or line when it comes to representing tragedy? If so, give some example or examples. Back up your thoughts with quotes (at least one quote from EACH reading) and explain your reasoning.
** Always, always back up your thoughts with some example, quote, or explanation. |
